HOW TO CHECK DISKS WITHOUT REPAIRING THEM?
First Aid in Disk Utility offers no option to skip making repairs, but if you note the Device name given in Disk Utility, you can run
“sudo fsck_apfs -n /dev/[device]” in
Terminal, where [device] is the Device name of that volume or container. You’ll need to authenticate that command with your admin password.
HOW TO TURN GAME MODE ON IN SONOMA?
Currently, the best way to turn Game Mode on is to put a recognized game into Full Screen mode, when it engages automatically. Similarly, turn it off simply by leaving Full Screen mode. This only works on Apple silicon Macs, and seems to be compatible with all the games we’ve tested.
