DIG THE NEWEY BREED

Sebastian Vettel dominated the Formula One World Championship from 2010 until 2013 while driving for the Red Bull Racing Team. His team-mate during these seasons was Australian F1 veteran Mark Webber, who competed in the series driving for various teams since 2002 until his switch to the World Endurance Championship for 2014. As a fan of Webber’s, I wanted to build a model to celebrate his career in Formula One. A couple of years ago, Revell Germany took on a challenge which no other model manufacturers had for a long time - they released affordable kits of modern Formula One cars. The first three released were the Ferrari F10, Mercedes W01 and McLaren MP4-25, all from the 2010 season. Despite their success, Revell waited a long time before releasing any more, however the end of 2013 saw a new release from the company; the Red Bull RB8. At a fraction of the price of the current Tamiya releases, one might expect Revell’s offering to be lacking in quality, however this is not the case. Yes, it does have its downfalls, but overall, and with a bit of work, it can build into a good-looking model. I had two kits for this build, and I used one of them as a ‘trial’ for many parts, in order to find the best way of building/painting certain assemblies such as the front and rear wings which proved difficult.
