Spotlight on Amble, the friendliest port
Posted 11 April 2015   | 2238 views
A new harbourside development in this charming fishing town in Northumberland is worth a visit.
The historic port of Amble is situated on the estuary of the River coquet – just to the south of the splendid Northumberland coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Amble is a traditional fishing town that has retained its authentic character, with a range of small, independent shops, including butchers, bakers and grocers.
Amble Harbour Village is a new development for 2015. It consists of 15 retail ‘pods’ selling bespoke crafts, gifts, food and drink, a seafood centre for the distribution of locally caught fish, and a redeveloped harbour area. The Harbour Village is part of a regeneration programme for Amble to further enhance the town and offer visitors the opportunity to buy fresh fish.
Amble is a fantastic base from which to explore the beautiful Northumberland coastline, from Hauxley to Warkworth, Alnmouth, Boulmer, craster and Seahouses, or drive inland to discover the historic market towns of Morpeth and Alnwick.
The town benefits from a variety of high quality restaurants and caf?s, not to mention wonderful fish and chip shops. There is also a cookery school where you can learn new recipes and techniques from a professional chef. Find out more at boathousefoodgroup.co.uk.
Some of the things you can do around Amble include boat trips, fishing, walking, cycling, sailing, kayaking and surfing. There’s also a swimming pool and gym, beaches and children’s indoor and outdoor play areas. Every week there is a busy Sunday market held on the quayside. The views down the harbour and out to sea are quite spectacular!
