SLEEP TOKEN
NORTHLANE
UK’s shadowy pop/metal missionaries cast their spell over west London
HAMMERSMITH APOLLO, LONDON
Northlane: cut from a different cloth
HAVING WELCOMED IN the new year with a surprise smattering of singles that embraced everything from hip hop to prog metal, Sleep Token have once again proved that their radical genre-bending formula works. While heavy music with pop hooks is certainly not a new thing, Vessel and his band are dissolving genre boundaries with a greater force than anyone before, with a sound that, at its lightest, is reminiscent of mainstream artists such as Rag’n’Bone Man and Imagine Dragons. And when these new songs are debuted in a live setting tonight at Hammersmith’s Apollo, they highlight exactly what modern metal has been waiting for.
