Electric Callboy radiate good vibes
MARIE KORNER
TONIGHT IS THE perfect antidote to our current anxious times, and the Apollo crowd are ready to forget their woes in a sea of neon, 80s-style wigs, glowstick bracelets, headbands and good vibes. First to hit the stage are German trio FUTURE PALACE. Fronted by the lavenderhaired Maria Lessing, they draw heavily from second album Run, impressively flexing their skills at blending melodic hardcore with incandescent powerpop and nu metal. Finnish Eurovision rockers BLIND CHANNEL bring the drama to the now-packed venue with a highly polished but captivating set. Between songs such as Died Enough For You and Flatline, vocalists Joel and Niko make their audience work hard for them, demanding multiple walls of death and circle-pits – achallenge fans are more than willing to rise to – and getting them to sing ‘Ehhhh-oh’ à la Freddie Mercury at Wembley. Indulgent, yes, but they’ve earned it, and their cover of Anastacia’s Left Outside Alone goes down an absolute storm with the fervent revellers.
