The Flugabwehrkanonenpanzer Gepard was the anti-aircraft version of the West German Leopard 1 MBT. It was developed in the 1960s and entered service in 1976. The Belgium Army was the first foreign user of the Leopard 1 and showed an early interest too in the Flakpanzer Gepard. In all 55 were acquired by the Belgians between 1977 and 1980 and they remained in service until 1994, their withdrawal part of the ‘peace dividend’ after the end of the Cold War.
