TIGER MODEL T-90M
The T-90M is an improved version of the T-90 tank. Sometimes this tank is referred as ‘Proryv-3’ (Breakthrough-3). It was first publicly revealed in 2017. It has several improvements over the original T-90. It follows the lines of the T-90MS tank, which was designed for export and uses some similar components. The T-90M was trialled by the Russian Army in 2017. During the same year a contract was signed to deliver a first batch of ten newly built T-90M tanks to the Russian Army and to upgrade another 20 T-90A tanks to a similar T-90AM standard. Deliveries of this first batch reportedly commenced in 2019. In 2021 it was announced that this tank was being delivered to the Russian army in quantity. In 2022 the tank was first spotted in Ukraine during the Russian invasion. On 4 May 2022 in Kharkiv Oblast a T-90M was destroyed in action, the first confirmed of the war. The tank, which appeared near Kharkiv on 25 April, was destroyed by soldiers of the 127th Territorial Defence Brigade. On 18 September, again in Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine, a T-90M was captured in perfect condition. According to the research of the Oryx register of destroyed and captured Russian armour, by the beginning of April at least two T-90Ms have been captured by the Ukrainians, eleven destroyed and five damaged and abandoned. Like much Russian equipment, the bite of the T-90M appears much less than its proverbial bark and its combat deployment in Ukraine, usually in small numbers and often ineptly, has made little impact on the course of the war.
