Late in the 1944, the RLM desperately needed a high-altitude fighter/interceptor in order to deter the constant bombing raids over the Germany. The solution was the Ta 152, an evolution of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9. With an extended 190 D fuselage and wings, tuned-up Jumo-213 engine and pressurised cockpit, the Ta 152 was one of the fastest fighters of the war. Due to its long wingspan and pressurised cockpit, it was able to cruise at altitudes over 13.500 meters. The exact number of operational Ta 152s is unknown, but no more than 50 were delivered to the Luftwaffe units. Either way, it was too little too late for the TA 152’s.
