When new, both the Gloucester and Cravens units carried standard dark green multiple unit livery. They soon acquired the obligatory yellow warning panels. However, as the Class 128s sported gangway connections, this was applied to the whole of the blanking panel. W55992 is seen at Southall on August 27 1961, in its original livery with graceful ‘speed whiskers’.

When it comes to published studies of railway liveries, most authors tend to concentrate on locomotives, with the humble multiple unit coming a poor second. Further down the pecking order is non-passenger carrying units, but they can provide an interesting addition to most layouts.
