Harmony Korine keeps it (sur)real.
HARMONY KORINE, FOREVER cinema’s enfant terrible, is at it again. The director who shocked America in the ’90s with Kids and put James Franco in cornrows for Spring Breakers returns for his latest film Aggro Dr1ft, a surreal hitman-thriller shot entirely on infrared cameras. Except he would rather you didn’t call it a film. “I don’t even know if it really is a movie,” he tells Empire at the Venice Film Festival, through clouds of cigar smoke. “I mean, it is a movie, but it’s kind of its own thing.”
