Putting this issue together, I couldn’t ignore the pull of the past. Sure, the spotlight is on the four fire-breathing litre bikes screaming on the cover, but we’ve also carved out space for legends like the Britten V1000 and the game-changing
Yamaha R1M. Neither is in conventional production these days, yet their influence on motorcycling is impossible to overstate.

What makes some bikes hit harder than others? What’s the secret sauce? Both the Yam and the Britten share one key trait: they refused to play by the rules. The Yamaha brought
big-bang firing and GP tech to the street, while the Britten proved that alternative thinking and sheer creativity could outsmart the competition in every corner.

In different ways, both stood out for all the right reasons. And that’s a message that’s reiterate by 2025’s four-litre bikes. In essence, they each tick very similar boxes, albeit in wholly different ways – the approach to reaching the benchmark is anything but copy-and-paste.

The industry is moving faster than ever, with electronics, aerodynamics, and hybrid technologies pushing the limits…
but will we ever see another Britten or R1M?

A bike that smashes the mould, flips the rules, and dares to be outrageously different… I sure hope so. In a world dominated by regulations and tech control, true outliers are rare, and this makes them shine all the brighter. In my opinion, we need
bikes like that.

And with rapid closing of this year, it’ll soon be time to see what next year’s onslaught of fresh metal has to offer.

Enjoy the mag, Bruce (editor)

Fast Bikes

Best bike mag by some margin and has been for a while. Exciting, good articles, amusingly written, not all BMW,s and Adventure bikes unlike some other mags and they printed a couple of my letters! What’s not to like? Beoordeeld op 17 augustus 2020

Definitive mag for sportsbike fans
