It's a pleasure to present the fourth edition of this handbook, which celebrates rifle sports in all their forms: in Britain and abroad; foxing and stalking; professional or pastime; for the beginner unsure of how to get into the sport to the expert looking for a few extra tips. Crucially, it covers the sport in its modern form as it is today, with all the technology and resources available to us. And it is not solely a hunting compendium, either – there is plenty of advice on getting started, technique and kit that will apply to rifle shooters of all forms, and a few culinary suggestions as well. In the shooting world, we talk about how to attract the next generation to the sport – and that’s what this handbook is about. I take a wide view of ‘newcomers’. I hope both amateur and experienced rifle shooting aficionados will find lots to interest them. You can share the successes and failures of others in the pursuit of British rifle sport, and that’s the next best thing to hiring a guide or accompanying a professional stalker about his work.
