FlyPast Magazine February 2017 Vorige editie

The brand new February edition of FlyPast features a special section dedicated to the legendary Supermarine Spitfire. Often written about, we focus on some of the less well known aspects of the famous fighter’s service. We examine wartime Spitfires modified to fly at high altitude and look at what the Germans did with captured aircraft. We also go air-to-air with a recently restored Mk.IX and get a sneak preview of a new documentary being prepared for the cinema screen.

Beaufort Spotlight
Our popular Spotlight section focuses on one of the less well known heroes of World War Two, the Bristol Beaufort. Andrew Thomas reflects on how both the RAF and the Royal Australian Air Force used the type in wartime, and we highlight a Beaufort pilot who posthumously received the VC.

Yorkshire’s Meteor
A look at a restoration project in Elvington, Yorkshire, that's bringing a Gloster Meteor night-fighter back to life.

Stalin’s Trophies
We conclude our examination of the many aircraft captured by the Russians in World War Two.

Peacemaker
A look at the mighty Convair B-36 Peacemaker, one of the most immediately recognisable - and largest - aircraft of the Cold War.

Hail the Avenger
We go flying with a Grumman Avenger warbird in the US - with air-to-air photography by John Dibbs.

Plus we reveal the story behind a famous World War Two photograph and pay a visit to a museum in Australia. We also bring back our popular ‘The Way We Were’ squadron history feature, and bring you news of a restored Supermarine Swift that’s now on display alongside Vulcan XH558.

Digital subscription for Flypast magazine

I have purchased the Flypast magazine for many years and generally as a hard copy. However, for the last couple of years l have subscribed annually to the digital version and now read on my iPad.
The magazine is great and I always find the content interesting and varied and never bored with the topics covered. Whilst previously enjoying the hard copy l am now a devoted digital subscriber and would recommend this version. On the downside you miss out on add ons such as calendars etc.
