FlyPast Magazine March 2013 Vorige editie

English
207 Beoordelingen   •  English   •   Aviation & Transport (Aviation)
Only €5,99
Don't miss the bumper 132-page March issue of FlyPast – a souvenir edition featuring a special, extended section on World War Two's all-important Battle of the Ruhr. We delve deep into the RAF's strategic bombing campaign – what it hoped to achieve, the dangers of flying over the German industrial heartland, individual stories, and a timeline of the key events. We dedicate this 70th anniversary commemoration to the men of Bomber Command, so many of whom paid the ultimate price.

LANCASTER TO FLY
Continuing the RAF bomber theme, we visit the wonderful Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre where Avro Lancaster 'Just Jane' - for so long maintained in ground running condition - is now being restored to fly. This fabulous machine is also our cover star this month.

BBMF SPITFIRE
As the BBMF fly Spitfire XVI TE311 for the first time, Paul Eden charts the fighter's history and describes its rebuild. Our nine-page feature includes stunning air-to-air photography of this rare Spitfire from the lens of Richard Paver.

BLACKBIRD SPECIAL
The subject for our 21-page Spotlight section is none other than the legendary Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, the record-breaking Mach 3 'Cold War' icon.

SQUADRON HISTORY
The history of the RAF's 208 Squadron is examined by acclaimed unit historian Andrew Thomas.

ROYAL NAVY HISTORIC FLIGHT
Matt Willis went to Yeovilton to find out about the RNHF's plans for the future.

Plus, we look back on the difficulties of keeping an English Electric Lightning fleet servicable in West Germany, detail the history of Planes of Fame's immaculate P-51D Mustang 'Spam Can', visit the ATA museum in Maidenhead and a Douglas Havoc restoration project in Leicestershire, and bring you news of the first post-restoration flight of UK-based Spitfire IX RR232.

Digital subscription for Flypast magazine

I have purchased the Flypast magazine for many years and generally as a hard copy. However, for the last couple of years l have subscribed annually to the digital version and now read on my iPad.
The magazine is great and I always find the content interesting and varied and never bored with the topics covered. Whilst previously enjoying the hard copy l am now a devoted digital subscriber and would recommend this version. On the downside you miss out on add ons such as calendars etc.
