The November issue of FlyPast features the Westland Lysander on its cover. Darren Harbar goes air-to-air with this fascinating machine, based with the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden, and talks to pilot ‘Dodge’ Bailey about how the distinctive aircraft were used to fly dangerous, clandestine missions at night during World War Two. Shuttleworth’s Lysander is painted as a tribute to all who took part in these remarkable operations over occupied Europe.

AIRWORTHY HURRICANES
This issue features a special section dedicated to another hero of World War Two, the Hawker Hurricane. Gordon Riley lists all Hurricanes currently airworthy as we celebrate the legacy of this famous British fighter.

MiG SPOTLIGHT
Our Spotlight section focuses on a classic Cold War jet, the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15. The swept wing fighters were a potent force in the Korean War. Historians from Russia analyse the machine, presenting their own perspective on its role and efficiency.

HAVOC
The subject of the US version of our cover – and included in all versions as a seven-page feature – is the only currently airworthy Douglas A-20G Havoc. Richard VanderMeulen photographs this immaculate warbird and tells its story.

AVENGING ANGELS
In another air-to-air exclusive, Jake Peterson flies alongside the Texas Flying Legends Museum’s award-winning Grumman Avenger.

BEIJING BONEYARD
Roger Soupart goes behind the scenes at the China Aviation Museum – and makes some remarkable finds.

Also in this issue, Steve Grivno recounts the tale of a Consolidated Privateer crew in the Far East, in the first of a two-part special. Editor Chris Gilson talks to RAF veteran Noel Dunningham about his extraordinary career, in which he flew everything from Tiger Moths to Victors, while Ken Ellis visits Newark Air Museum to see the latest progress on its Avro Shackleton restoration. We also celebrate the return of a Hawker Sea Fury to British skies.

Digital subscription for Flypast magazine

I have purchased the Flypast magazine for many years and generally as a hard copy. However, for the last couple of years l have subscribed annually to the digital version and now read on my iPad.
The magazine is great and I always find the content interesting and varied and never bored with the topics covered. Whilst previously enjoying the hard copy l am now a devoted digital subscriber and would recommend this version. On the downside you miss out on add ons such as calendars etc.
