Issue 139 of Freshwater Fishing Australia is bursting at the seams with great tips; techniques and locations for all those dedicated freshwater anglers out there.
Nige Webster reflects on 20 years of trout flies, spin gear and spawn run fish, and finds that ‘drift rigging’ is still is as effective and engaging as it was two decades ago... Colby Lesko shares some handy tips for getting amongst some trophy-sized fish in Victoria’s Moorabool Reservoir. In his second and final instalment on fishing Burrinjuck Dam, Andrew McGovern drills down into the techniques, methods and locations of the upper Murrumbidgee Arm and the Yass River arm of this iconic water. Trevor Hawkins suggests that to get our once fabulous trout fishery back on track and thriving again may take some lateral thinking from both trout anglers and fisheries managers. Big Murray cod, bass and barramundi are close to the top of the freshwater fish species list that feed and hunt at night according to Andrew McGovern, but there’s one species that knock them off their perch to claim first place, and that species is the mighty brown trout.
Dean Norbiato takes a fresh look at what it takes to lure a lunker from our inland lakes and dams, and he explains that just like any form of fishing, you have to crawl before you walk. Sammy Hitzke excelled quickly on his first trip to tick off a greenfish from his bucket list. James Dainton found himself turning up at the wrong location for what was initially a highly anticipated fishing session. Trevor Hawkins revisits the Eildon Pondage and discusses the lure and flyfishing potential of this fantastic fishery close to Melbourne. Stephen Booth takes an indepth look into ‘wakebait’ fishing methods for XOS cod. There’s a lot more of course, including electronics, finesse luring, gear and reviews etc, and all of it finished off with Mick Halls long running and always fascinating FlyTalk.

Freshwater Fishing Australia magazine was first published over 24 years ago and is an institution for many of our country’s freshwater anglers. It is one of the longest running fishing magazines in the country. For two decades, the country’s leading fishing journalists have been providing the best information for our anglers. The quality of the publication has resulted in many local anglers retaining every copy of the magazine ever published. Freshwater Fishing continues to hold the trophy of the country’s most popular freshwater only publication.
Every two months Freshwater Fishing Australia’s team of expert writers update you on what’s working and where to fish. All techniques from fly fishing for trout through baitfishing for goldens to casting soft plastic for barra – and every variation between. The magazine’s popularity and strength is its concentration on providing information that fishers can apply to improve their success rate in a way that all readers can understand.
