PLAYER welfare is often spoken about as a priority in Rugby League, yet the scheduling at the back end of a World Cup season is anything but about player welfare.
At the end of 2019, it was decided that the Easter Weekend back-toback fixtures would be abolished after I don’t know how long because of player welfare. Whilst plans were understandably disrupted due to the pandemic in 2020 and possibly even 2021, there is no reason why, when planning for the 2022 season, some forethought couldn’t have been given to the issue. The reason given was the World Cup.
