The Kyle RNLI crew alongside the stricken yacht.
Kyle of Lochalsh RNLI’s volunteer crew battled rough seas early on Friday evening to aid a yacht in dificulty in Broadford bay on Skye ather its steering was disabled due to the extremely bad weather. the lifeboat launched at 5.28pm and made best speed through heavy seas towards the vessel, arriving on scene at 5.45pm.
The 15-metre yacht, Fruit Cakes, which had one person on board, was stuck hard against the windward side of Broadford pier and was in danger of breaking as it was battered by the high winds and large swell. the lifeboat put a crew member aboard to assess the situation and it was quickly decided to tow the stricken yacht to the sheltered side of the pier, out of the swell.
