The audience in Oban Parish Church was treated to an extraordinary musical performance by two extremely talented young people on Tuesday June 26. The Galilee Duet, comprising brother and sister Omar and Tibah Sa’ad from Nazareth, delighted the audience with a professional performance of an enchanting variety of music.
Their technical expertise was very much in evidence in two solo unaccompanied suites by Bach, one played on the cello by Tibah and the other on viola by Omar. These were followed by Beethoven’s less well-known duet for viola and cello in which the siblings skillfully executed the musical repartee of the two instrumental parts.
The duo then charmed their audience with improvisations of vocal and instrumental music of their own country which, it is safe to say, have never before been performed live to an Oban crowd, evidence of whose appreciation and enjoyment came in the form of two encores.
