Tobermory High School Pipe Band had a busy but memorable weekend on November 9, 10 and 11.
Friday November 9 saw the band playing to a packed Aros hall for its 2018 concert. Fear an tighe Douglas MacNeilage welcomed everyone present and thanked them for all their support. Pipe Major Calum MacLean then brought a group of his young chanter players on to the stage. It was wonderful to see so many youngsters playing in public for the first time. The full band then took to the stage, playing marches, jigs and airs. Two older members, Corrie MacKenzie and Alexander Anderson each played a solo set, beautifully show-casing Calum’s teaching.
The band returned to the stage for another few sets, interspersed by the beautiful singing of Camrie MacInnes, one of the band’s drummers. Accompanying her was Iain Harris, nephew of Calum. Douglas MacNeilage then introduced Tobermory man Brigadier John MacFarlane, a member of the Clan MacLean Heritage Trust, who spoke highly of the work put in by Pipe Major Calum MacLean and drumming tutor Brian Graham and how impressed he had been with the discipline of the band.
