SCOTTISH film star Alan Cumming has sent a letter to Argyll and Bute Council urging it to reject plans for Scotland’s first caviar farm … along with a jar of vegan caviar.
Planning officers are considering The Fynest Caviar Co’s plan to build ‘a closed containment aquaculture facility for the production of sturgeon’ by Loch Fyne at Ardkinglas Sawmill, Cairndow.
The £4 million project aims to turnover £3.64 million over six years, displacing some of the £22 million of caviar and caviar substitutes imported into the UK annually, and to hire seven full-time employees. The Edinburgh- based company hopes to have Scottish caviar on the market by Christmas 2020.
