Old Bike Mart  |  January 2016
The turn of every year embraces re ecting on the past, enjoying the present and looking forward to the future – and the emphasis on which particular part of this trio applies the most probably depends on your age.
When you’re young, it’s all about tomorrow, and goes right back to the time in very early childhood when you couldn’t wait to grow tall enough to see over that hedge or wall. When you’re in the prime of life it’s all about having a good time right now – and why not indeed? And when, inevitably, you nally realise that most of your life is in the past, much comfort is found in fond memories and nostalgia.
The lucky ones among us manage to enjoy all three at once
– and this is certainly re ected in this month’s issue, which was
put together in double quick time because of the approach of the Christmas holiday.
Preserving the past for future generations to enjoy is what the British Motorcycle Charitable
Trust is about, and its aims and achievements were made clear
in an interview with its secretary, Andy Bufton, which I enjoyed in the wonderful surroundings of the refurbished Coventry Transport Museum on Friday, December 11. Read all about it on pages 38-39.
Thanks to the amazing treasure trove that is the Mortons Archive, we also bring a taste of wintry nostalgia going back as far as 1915 on pages 12-13 to show just what those hardy motorcycling pioneers got up to in the snow.
