Trip to The Vurger Co
THE INTERVIEW
We spoke to Rachel from The Vurger Co to discuss the recent collaboration, the brand itself and her thoughts on ‘spreading the vegan message’…
How did the collaboration with Gaz Oakley come about?
We’ve actually known Gaz since he came to our first ever pop up in October 2016. We asked him to come, because he was just starting out back then too, and we were brand new to the industry, so we were keen for him to come and check out our food and give us his feedback. At the time we were preparing for our crowdfunding campaign and asked him to be a part of the video we were doing, but he said “No, I’m too nervous, I don’t want to be in front of the camera,” which you can barely believe looking at where he is today. But we stayed friends ever since.
Every now and again we spoke to him about what we were doing and asked if we could work with him, but the time was never right, and it always ended up that one or the other of us was too busy. But as we’ve both grown in parallel, really, since we first met – with us now having a solid restaurant in Shoreditch and him with a successful social media career – there were so many more opportunities for us to collaborate.
