Railnews  |  July 2013
Railnews leads this month with a special report about the record-breaking levels of investment which are on the table for the railway industry. Proposed spending on the existing network, plus electrification, Crossrail, Intercity Express, Thameslink and of course HS2 now adds up to more than £100 billion. In other news, we have the latest on the colliery landslide which closed a four-track railway near Doncaster and why National Rail passengers seem be slightly less contented than they were. More happily, we have the details of proposals for a new station at Kenilworth and also a privately-funded line across Windsor. We have the latest reaction to another proposal – to revive the former Stonebridge Railway in the West Midlands – and catch up on a very long-running story indeed, after the government finally gave the green light to a pilot tram-train project in South Yorkshire. The saga of railway seagulls is still on the wing, too, with an update from the south west of England. This, and much more, is in Railnews for July.
