RESTORATION of Kerr, Stuart 4wDM 4415/1928, Britain’s oldest surviving diesel loco, has reached the stage of reassembling the bodywork.
Original parts have been used where possible and comprise one lower cab side, the cab back sheet and much of each side of the bonnet. The cab has more new material as it is being reconstructed to the original design rather than its cut-down post-1929 form, which means the loco now looks as it did when built for the first time in 94 years. Work on No. 4415 is being largely funded by the Ffestiniog Railway Society.
