As I wrote up the piece on the new XR15wPro from EcoTech I couldn’t help but consider how far this hobby has come. I don’t want to sound like a boring old man here, but I can remember when T8 tubes were desirable pieces of kit. In fact my second ever tank, that I bought from a friend of my father’s came with a few holes for sixty watt bulbs in the hood, though it also had iron frames and the glass was held in by putty. However it held a Java moss infested Amazonian (sort of) system that I was very proud of.
Today of course we can sit on the sofa, touch a piece of shiny glass
with a computer behind it and tailor the exact spectra of our tanks to reflect our mood and aesthetics…oh and the needs of our aquariums of course! I jest, but the point remains we have travelled a long road.
I wonder if in thirty years’ time nanobots will scavenge organics from our systems and mini camera equipped hermits will stream video to our implants as they keep an eye on our chip-implanted fish?
OK probably not, but could any of us have predicted the kit we have today?
