HELP! MY RACE PHOTOS LOOK AWFUL!
MAKE YOUR MARATHON MEMORIES ALL THE SWEETER WITH A PHOTO YOU’RE PROUD TO FRAME
WORDS: LIZZY DENING
You’ve spent months working through a training schedule, fuelled sensibly, put thought into your kit and made it through a tough event… only to find there’s not a single good photo of you running the race.
Sound familiar? If you’ve ever scrolled through a race photography website and despaired at your grimace or straggly hair, you’re not alone. And while medals are a wonderful reminder of the blood, sweat and tears, there’s something special about an image that captures the moment. With big race season coming up, we’re here to help you get a photo that screams: “I’m a runner – and I’m gorgeous!”
Jodi Hanagan (jodihanaganphotography. com) is a wedding photographer, who turned her hand to snapping at sports events five years ago, after a marathon-running friend asked for some shots. “Because I shoot weddings too, I’ve been told I come at race photography from a different angle,” she says. “But what I’ve realised is, in all types of photography, a good photo should help you to remember how you felt at the time – whether good or bad!”
