The Best Fiction nominations by the US National Book Critics Circle are: Mohsin Hamid, Exit West; Alice McDermott, The Ninth Hour; Arundhati Roy, The Ministry of Utmost Happiness; Joan Silber, Improvement; Jesmyn Ward, Sing, Unburied, Sing. The full range of NBCC Awards will be presented on 15 March in New York.
• The Mystery Writers of America have announced the shortlist for the prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Awards. For best novel the nominations are: The Dime, Kathleen Kent; Prussian Blue, Philip Kerr; Bluebird, Bluebird, Attica Locke; A Rising Man, Abir Mukherjee; The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley, Hannah Tinti. The EAP Awards will be presented at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, New York on 26 April.
