Writers always grumble that one of the most common questions they get asked is, where do you get your ideas from? Well, obviously they grow on trees. I have a lovely ideas tree in my garden. It will be coming into blossom soon and bear delicious fruit packed full of all sorts of flavourful writing inspiration come the autumn. I usually freeze some ideas I don’t want to use right away to keep my going through the winter in case I should suffer from seasonally adjusted writer’s block. Then I turn any leftover ideas into jam.

So in this article, whether you write fiction or non-fiction, I’m going to share some methods for getting the ideas flowing. Not all of them will work for you, so just pick and choose the most appealing fruit from my ideas tree.
