The relationship between writing and research is important and needs balancing says Patrick Forsyth
If you write because you enjoy the process of research your writing necessitates, and there is nothing wrong with that, then you may want to ignore me this month. However, if you want to maximise your sales of work, and perhaps income, then you need to regard research with an eye on productivity. Each hour you spend on research is an hour not spent writing. If elaborate research is necessary, and if for instance you are writing a biographical account of some sort it may well be, then it must be done or you risk error and, at worst, not getting published or ridicule.
