As Editor-in-Chief of Non-Sport Update magazine I’m often asked what got me started, specifically what card sets I collected as a kid. Here are the ones, that I remember anyway, that thrilled me to the bone, one 5¢ pack at a time:
• 1957 Topps Gee Whiz Quiz (aka Isolation Booth): Probably my first non-sport set. Isolation Booth mimicked a popular TV game show, The $64,000 Question (1955-1958). Card fronts asked a general information-type question while the reddish/orange backs cloaked an answer solved by employing pack-included Magic Red Paper.
