2020 might be shaping up as the year of the independent, with several interesting entries in the non-sport race. Siplon Studios, for one, is out of the gate with Freaky Faces, an old school-influenced monster card set with a modern twist. Says Randy Siplon, an artist who is doing all the artwork himself and is publishing the set independently, “I have been a sketch card artist for the past 12 years for many different card companies, [including] Topps, Upper Deck, and Rittenhouse Archives. It just felt like the right time to do it myself.” In addition to his work for major manufacturers, Randy has done countless commissions for private collectors and has even performed work as a tattoo artist. “Art is my life in more ways than one”!
The set, which will launch on Kickstarter August 15th, is targeted to ship sometime in November. Freaky Faces will consist of 10 base cards with four metallic gold chase cards, as well as limited edition sketch cards.
