The depth charge was detonated by the bomb squad.
A dog-walker discovered an unexploded Second World War bomb washed up on a beach on the Isle of Jura last week, but the bomb squad had to wait 36 hours to make it safe because the ferries were full. Jura’s busy Coastguard took turns to guard the cordoned-off area of Corran Sands until the depth charge primer could be detonated, and even managed to top up their sun tan at the same time.
