All hail to the skybox.
I t’s a little tragedy when a game isn’t what we want it to be. I wanted the stealth in Star Wars Outlaws to have the intricate yet logical beauty of say, Hitman. I wanted Last Train Home to be turn-based. I want Far Cry to stop undermining its own open worlds with invisible walls made of bullet sponges. Sometimes you shrug, sometimes you get over it, but sometimes it means quitting, uninstalling and seeing if Steam will refund you. As an opinion, this is all fine, but if you’re writing about games, it’s not a valid criticism.
The Forever Winter
isn’t an FPS version of
This War of Mine.
That’s what I was looking for. This is not its fault. It’s my problem. But, it was kind of the USP of this game, wasn’t it? It was sold to us as the anti-war thing that I’ve beaten a drum for in the pages of this very magazine. Furthermore, as it stands, it’s not very good. As such, I feel justified in crying about the new wine we were promised dying on the vine.
