TROPHY TROPHEUS
Not many fish develop cult status. Certain catfish, maybe. Arowana, perhaps, but only because of their Triad affiliations. Possibly some of the bigger predators. Tropheus fans are an underground hardcore of fish fandom. There aren’t Tropheus-specific conventions where enthusiasts meet, and the fish aren’t marketed at a retail level in any aggressive way. It’s just that aquarists eventually stumble across them, fall in love, take the plunge and never look back. They become ‘Trophoholics’, doomed to spend the following months trawling online and printed sources for every picture and every snippet of information they can get.
