From the tone of the guitars to the shimmer on the keyboards and the key changes, Unifaun sounded – to politely understate it – alot like Genesis. That’s no secret, and singer Nad Sylvan, now an essential fixture in Steve Hackett’s touring band, wouldn’t deny it. They took their name from a line in Dancing With The Moonlit Knight, and Sylvan’s voice on this album is pretty much what would result if one asked artificial intelligence to offer a precise blend of Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.
The California-born, Swedish-raised performer’s love of all things Genesis began around the time of Wind And
Wuthering, and when he saw tribute band The Musical Box play in 2003, the idea of creating new songs in the spirit of the original unit’s prog era seized him. With all-round musician Bonamici (real name Christian Thordin) proving masterful at recreating the necessary soundscapes and aura, Unifaun’s sole album did exactly what it aimed to.
