Stream the Prog 159 playlist at spoti.fi/42hfGVS Hello and welcome to the latest issue of Prog. I can still remember my introduction to Warrior On The Edge Of Time. It was my first week at Lancaster University, and an impoverished third-year student was selling stuff in the main square to raise some cash. Among her wares was a copy of the album, with the original insert and the gatefold sleeve, which folded out to reveal the ‘Shield Of Chaos’. I still have that record, along with more recent versions, and it has remained my go-to Hawkwind album ever since, despite the band having a catalogue full of other gems.
Warrior On The Edge Of Time celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, so Hawkwind biographer and Prog writer Joe Banks spoke to members of the band about how they made the album, under trying circumstances, it appears. Of course, Hawkwind being Hawkwind, they also have a brand-new studio album out. There Is No Space For Us continues the band’s rich vein of form and we talk to the current line-up about that, too.
