There is so much talk these days about ‘finding your purpose’ or being ‘values-led’ that it’s no wonder we end up searching for the deeper meaning behind it all. There are clear historical, technological, philosophical, economic, and political factors that have contributed to this perfect storm of our quest for purpose. But, undoutedly, once we understand what is or is not in alignment with our interests, knowing our values allows us to live with more ease.
‘Alignment’ is a word that has become consistently used, along with ‘resonance’, to describe things that line up with our desires. But what do these terms that have been dominating the wellness industry for the past decade actually mean? ‘Resonance’ or ‘alignment’ could be described as inner feelings of knowing: of calm, of peace, of inspiration, or of any other inner spark felt in response to an experience, a concept, an idea, a person, a physical place, or situation. It is that head-nodding sense of security and safety that emerges as a reaction to an experience that engulfs us with a sense of contentedness.
