‘Taking photos of the hidden earth and shining sky offers experiences that go beyond anything technical or artistic. It builds a connecting bridge to the entire universe,’ says award-winning photographer and science journalist Babak Tafreshi. His new book, The World At Night (White Lion Publishing, £30), celebrates the beauty of our night sky as never before in more than 200 photographs from around the world (pictured). Between them, the photographers have spent thousands of nights beneath the stars, recording beautiful nightscape scenes that are usually missed by society.
Our kindness project
OUR KIND OF PEOPLE
Kindness is an antidote to social anxiety, so it’s time to start connecting, says David Hamilton
THERE ARE MANY unexpected effects of kindness. In a four-week study* at the University of British Columbia, volunteers with high levels of social anxiety were randomly chosen to either perform acts of kindness, participate in behavioural experiments or be in a control group. The purpose was to measure the impact of acts of kindness, compared with other habits.
