While we may not have many chances to reap the vitamin D benefits of the Mediterranean sunshine, we can still take a leaf out of its book when it comes to diet. Rich in whole grains, fruits, veg, fish and healthy fats, much has been said of the life-lengthening advantages of the Med menu. Now, new research from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, confirms it. The 18-month trial found that a green Med diet, high in polyphenols and low in red and processed meat, appears to slow agerelated brain atrophy, a cause of cognitive decline.
