SIDELINES
Fresh Spanish produce by rail
TESCO and Transfesa Logistics are working together to deliver fresh fruit and vegetables from Spain to the UK by rail.
Initially, 15 refrigerated loads per week are running from the Almussafes rail terminal in Valencia to DB Cargo’s Barking terminal.
The wagons pass through Transfesa’s gauge-changing facility at Cerbère, on the Spain/ France border, to change axles from Spanish 5ft 6in to standard gauge.
Winvic to build DIRFT 3 terminal
WINVIC Construction has secured a £29million contract to deliver the latest expansion of the Daventry Intermodal Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) in Northamptonshire.
Winvic will construct five 800m-long sidings and install a traverser.
The scheme forms part of Prologis’ extension to its DIRFT III logistics park, and includes significant earthworks, 9km of new track linked to the existing terminal and the West Main Line and three bridges.
