WABTEC has announced plans to close its factory in Doncaster, which is the final major part of the famous Doncaster Works still in rail use.
The US-owned company said the decision was made after a “comprehensive review of the product lines and cost challenges” at the factory, which employs about 300 people at the site adjacent to the city’s station. A company statement added that several options were under consideration, including moving to another UK location or relocating to a nearby site.
