NETWORK Rail has been fined £6.7 million after pleading guilty to charges brought under Health and Safety legislation for the derailment of a ScotRail HST at Carmont, south of Stonehaven, on August 12, 2020, that led to the loss of three lives.
Judge Lord Matthews observed that, however distressing the images of the remains of the HST set were, they were nothing compared to the deaths of the driver, guard, and one passenger on the 06.38 Aberdeen to Glasgow service that day.
