Super Metroid has long been regarded as one of the best games in the series and it’s easy to see why. It combines all the hallmarks of a great Nintendo game and adds an incredible atmosphere, while building on all the tenets that established Metroid as such an immersive adventure. It has been a pleasure then to speak to a number of developers that have all been inspired by Nintendo’s game over the past 30 years. Some of them have created their own Metroidvanias, while others have made later Metroid games, but all have been influenced by the 1994 classic.
Outside of our exhaustive ten-page Super Metroid celebration we’ve also found time to speak to Charles Cecil about Revolution Software’s Broken Sword series, while Fiona Sperry and Chris Roberts look back at the creation of Criterion’s Burnout 3: Takedown. Brian Fargo explains what it was like crafting Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, while Phil Ulrich recalls the creation of his French sci-fi classic Captain Blood.
