WEST COAST FINED £200K
Britain’s primary main line steam operator has been fined £200,000 and
ordered to pay £64,000 in costs for breaking health and safety laws. West Coast Railway Company pleaded guilty at Swindon Crown Court on June
27, when train driver Melvyn Cox was given a four-month sentence, suspended for eighteen months for health and safety breaches. They had been prosecuted by the Office of Rail and Road following a signal being
passed at danger at Wootton Bassett Junction last year (SR439). Mr Cox, from
Swanage, admitted breaching safety laws.
