A Celebration of Summer!
Welcome to our June/July issue, where we celebrate summer in all its richness, warmth and vibrant detail. This is the season where everything comes into its own, full of colour, texture and life, and this issue brings together a collection of pieces that showcase that abundance in different and beautiful ways.
On our cover, Nicola Tapper’s stunning stumpwork butterfly lifts from the fabric with remarkable dimension. Continuing the theme of nature in full flourish, Oksana Balanovska’s intricate thread-painted honeybee is a true marvel, a piece that beautifully captures the spirit of summer, while Katherine Savage’s hand embroidered fresh summer fruits feel almost good enough to eat, bursting with colour and vitality.
We are also delighted to feature Heena Chauhan’s joyful free-motion embroidered banner, a beautiful piece that perfectly introduces the season. In our accompanying interview, Heena shares how she preserves family heritage and childhood memories through her work, creating meaningful heirloom pieces.
Our much-loved horoscope series continues with Katy Horwood, turning its focus to the bold and radiant Leo, while Tanya Bentham returns with the next instalment in her Opus Anglicanum bird series, a beautifully worked golden chaffinch that reflects both historical craftsmanship and the brilliance of the natural world.
We are also proud to showcase the winners of the 2026 The Embroiderers’ Guild Annual Members’ Challenge, a celebration of creativity, skill and the incredible talent within our stitching community.
There is so much to explore within these pages, and we hope this issue encourages you to embrace the richness of summer, to experiment with colour and texture, and to find inspiration in the details all around you.
Happy stitching!
