Spec me up before you go Go
FIRST TEST MICROSOFT SURFACE LAPTOP GO
Microsoft’s lightest laptop aims to deliver slick hardware to a wider audience with less cash to spend… but how low can you Go when it comes to the options list?

W e didn’t just rave about Apple’s new M1-chipped laptops last month – we crowned the MacBook Air our Gadget of the Year.
But while Microsoft may well follow Apple in creating its own ARM-based chips for its Surface laptops, for now they’re still very much ‘Intel inside’. The Surface Laptop Go is purpose-built for students, professionals and home-workers who want something a little more functional than a Chromebook. High-end hardware is out, in favour of modest specs and a modest starting price. Take that figure with a pinch of salt, though, as there’s a good case for spending the extra on the top-spec version tested here… and that lands you in MacBook Air territory.
