Add a personal air purifier to ANC headphones and you get… well, laughed at. But can the Dyson Zone’s tech justify its ‘escaped sex robot’ looks?

Trying to reach a verdict on the Dyson Zone is like trying to catch a falling jelly – you can grasp it, but you won’t catch it. But we need to catch the jelly. Dyson’s recent publicity material has put more emphasis on the audio, calling them “headphones with air purification”, which does clarify how we should probably see this product: music first, purification as the add-on.
The price may be eye-watering but there’s some stellar bespoke tech on show here: there are 11 mics, for example, eight of which are for advanced noise-cancelling because of the air compressors. The air spinners in the earcups, meanwhile, have custom flexible mountings to kill vibrations.
