SONY A7CR

In a world where every camera maker seems preoccupied with video, the Sony A7C R defiantly puts photography first. Its 61MP full-frame sensor has resolution to burn, giving shots an astonishing level of detail that’s ideal for the lost art of landscape photography.

That high resolution also enables users to crop in quite mercilessly to frame things just right: you can really go to town and still keep large prints looking pristine. Its fast, accurate autofocus makes it ideal for street and portrait work too… and yes, alright, the 10-bit 4K video is pretty great.

Squishful thinking That Sony has managed to fit this sensor in a body so compact and lightweight is really impressive, and hugely boosts the A7C R’s appeal for travel when fitted with a small lens.

The payoff for that is some ergonomic awkwardness: the viewfinder is uncomfortable to use and the physical controls are a touch crowded. But that’s a fair price to pay for putting such huge power in a transportable body.

As soon as it’s airborne, you realise that this tiny ultralight drone is anything but a toy. Like the Sony A7C R, this is a modern and powerful full-frame camera clad in unlikely clothes – in this case, old-style rangefinder threads. If travel vlogs are your jam, best pack this super-lightweight video-centric compact. It comes with a forward-facing flip screen, integrated stereo mic (with wind filter), built-in livestreaming to YouTube and Facebook… and a giant record button. £400 / canon.co.uk

Originally designed for kids at summer camp, this screenless digital camera is a low-cost return to simpler times.
