BETA YOURSELF BE A WRITER
Whether you want to prepare for penning articles, poetry or a debut novel about weasels in space, these tips from Craig Grannell will help you get started on your phone or tablet
THE BASICS
■ Stop faffing
Don’t waste time styling text when you’ve barely written anything. To get good, you must prioritise thinking and… well, writing. Use a plain text editor and learn Markdown (see markdownguide.org) for basic formatting. Only edit once you’ve at least a completed a rough draft.
■ Set targets
Novels aren’t written in a day.
And if you’re just starting out, even a few paragraphs might be a challenge. So set aside a minimum daily target (ideally in terms of time rather than words) to build a routine.
Unsure what to write? Pick a random subject and just write as fast as you can.
Think of this as exercising your writing muscles.
